Bongo Java Roasting Co. 107 South 11th Street Nashville, TN 37206 Telephone: 615-777-2572 Member since 1999 www.BongoJava.com Bongo Java Roasting Co. takes coffee seriously and itself a lot less so. We know what we're doing, and we're proud of doing the right thing in terms of buying organic coffee under the terms of Fair Trade, encouraging recycling and getting involved in our neighborhood. Bongo Java believes in an expanded definition of quality that adds concerns about the way the beans were grown and purchased to the usual criteria of cup taste. Thus, all of our coffee is organic and purchased from small-scale farmers at or above the Fair Trade established price. Bongo Java boasts Nashville’s oldest coffeehouse and the city’s most celebrated coffee company.
We have been named "Best Coffeehouse" by the local alternative weekly Nashville Scene every year we have been open and have taken the top two places since we opened our second store in 1996.
We were named by USA Today as One of 10 Great Places for Coffee and Conversation.
We have been featured on Food Network's $40 a day with Rachel Ray and the Travel Channel. We got world-wide media attention with the discovery of the NunBun, an ordinary cinnamon bun that looks like Mother Teresa. The Music City Miracle was featured in media outlets as diverse as Washington Post, CNN, BBC, Paul Harvey, All Things Considered and (so we've been told) a Calcutta newspaper. The NunBun was the inspiration behind a David Letterman and Paul Shaffer 10-minute song-and-dance routine about food items that look like famous people.
The Bongo World Empire now includes four cafes (Bongo Java, Fido, Grins Vegetarian Café and Bongo Java Roasting Co. – Café East) as well as Nashville's only certified organic coffee roasting company, Bongo Java Roasting Co.
